Productivity
1. More units per hour through improved efficiency and/or the use of imported technology.
2. The best of human and material resources or Resource Utilization
1 efficient use of equipment and resources by each employee
2 costs associated with labour (e.g. wages and salaries, benefits, worker’s safety and insurance costs, payroll administration)
3 accessibility and quantity of a country’s usable natural resources

Measuring Productivity
Productivity growth is evident in:
-Innovation in I.T
-Strong Machinery
-Equipment and plant investment
-Low unemployment
Productivity can be reflected in:
-higher levels of salary and wages
-increased profits to reinvest to R&D

Productivity

- Efficiently vs. Effectively
- Time and Quality
- For Example: Typing a letter. To do the task efficiently you need to complete it on time for due date. To do the task effectively you need to make sure it is in the right format, no spelling errors etc. Most of the time, we are expected to complete tasks both efficiently and effectively. Therefore developing strategies on how to do it, must be well planned ahead.
- Productivity Example:
Henry Ford (beginning of 20th century) introduced assembly line. It became possible to mass-produce automobiles, making them affordable to an average family. Then, it was “cutting age” technology - today the assembly line still exists, but it is highly mechanized, using robotics. - In order to be more productive Ford needs to look at:
- Machine capacity: if working less than it capacity -productivity down
Reduce machine downtime (repairs) - Usage of company’s resources: people, machines, product lines, part supply, and raw material
- Machine capacity: if working less than it capacity -productivity down
